Hi there! Welcome to Lovania Dance Company!
We are passionate about Salsa and love sharing this passion with our students and the dance community. Our preferred style is Salsa On2, also known as New York Style Salsa or modern Mambo. But just like salsa, we don't like to put ourselves in a box. As you know from Izzy Sanabria's speech Salsa is a mix, a sauce, a cocktail containing many ingredients coming from Africa, Europe, Latin and North America. We believe that to become great dancers we need to taste from all the ingredients that make up Salsa: Son, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Pachanga, Boogaloo, Afro-Cuban dances, Partnerwork, Solo dancing, you name it!
At Lovania Dance Company, we believe that mastering the fundamentals is key to unlocking your full potential as a dancer. We prioritize excellence in technique and precision, emphasizing the importance of correct leading and following.
But for us, dancing is a lot more than just learning the steps.
We also value the beauty of dance. We strive to make your dancing captivating to watch. This is why we dedicate time to practicing solo work and body movement, to help you bring elegance and fluidity to your performance.
At the same time, musicality is an integral part of our teaching philosophy. We teach our students to understand the distinct layers of salsa music—the rhythm, melody, and instruments—so you can adapt your dance style to match what you hear. Musicality is the key to creating a unique, dynamic and fun dance experience every time you step onto the dancefloor.
So whether you’re a complete beginner, you dance for fun or aspire to perform, we hold high standards to help you achieve your best! We aim to make you well-rounded dancers, being able to spin like a top, interpret music, move with fluency, and in other words become able to dance at any level, anywhere, anytime.
We can't wait to see you on the dance floor!
In our showteam training we prepare dancers to perform a choreography on stage. This is a different discipline than social dance, but both can complement eachother nicely. With choreography projects we ready ourselves to perform in front of an audience while executing routines that have been honed and detailed over months of training. A must-try for any experienced social dancer.
A word of caution: this is a challenging endeavor, and meant for motivated dancers. You will need to practice outside of planned classes to master the choreography. This also requires commitment, since leaving prematurely will punch a hole in the choreography. For the same reason, performing is part of the deal.
If this does not scare you, you may be ready for a unique dancing experience!
Our current team is at capacity. However, stay tuned for a new team in the second half of the year!
No Partner Needed!: You can join our classes solo! We'll rotate partners during the session, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to practice with others.
Wear Comfortable Clothing: Sporty or flexible clothes are ideal to move freely and stay comfortable while dancing.
Bring the Right Shoes: Dance shoes are recommended, but any shoes with a smooth sole that glide well will work just fine. Avoid grippy sneakers.
Weekly Free Practice: Every Friday evening there is a free practice evening at De Vaart, Kolonel Begaultlaan 15. These are a collaborative endeavor between the different dance schools, and they allow you to meet people and practice without any pressure! Look for Encanta for more info.
We look forward to welcoming you to the dance floor!
